Saturday, August 9, 2008 NBC Games Currently Postponed Due To
Rain For the second time today
the rains have come and the NBC World Series is in a rain delay. At around
10:30 P.M. NBC officials have told the Liberal Bee Jays they can go ahead and
go back to their hotel and get some sleep and that they will be called when a
game time is known. There are still two nine inning games to be played before
the Bee Jays would take the field. NBC officials have said unless the weather
clears up immediately that games likely won’t get going again in the middle of
the night, and that it is most likely that the games will get going again in
the early morning. As of right now there is no way to determine when the Bee
Jays will play. To stay updated on the NBC World Series throughout the night

Bee Jays Opponent and Game Time Changes The Liberal Bee Jays were
scheduled to play the winner of last nights Havasu
Heat-Derby Twins winner tonight at 10 P.M., however NBC World Series officials
have changed the bracket and the Bee Jays will play the Wichita Sluggers in
what will be an elimination game. Havasu defeated
Derby 2-0 prompting NBC officials to change the bracket as they said they made
the change due to the fact that the Bee Jays already played Havasu
and that they didn’t want two teams to face each other twice this early in the
tournament. This appears to be a break for the Bee Jays as Havasu
is 50-2 on the season and is the defending NBC World Series Champs. Liberal did
defeat Havasu 6-3 on Wednesday night. The Wichita
Sluggers are 2-1 in the NBC so far. They finished third in the Walter Johnson
League this year with a 12-8 record. The game time has also been changed as

Considine Changes Mind On Joplin
Forfeits Jayhawk League
Commissioner Bob Considine has reversed his original
decision that the Joplin Slashers who folded Monday
night would finish the league season at 0-36. Instead every game they played in
the Jayhawk League will count. The only games the Slashers will have to forfeit are the two games they had
left on their schedule against Nevada which were set for next week. Considine originally made his decision without consulting
with any of the other Jayhawk League teams. After
consulting with them Considine changed his ruling.
This decision moves the Liberal Bee Jays back to 22-17 overall and 17-14 in the
Jayhawk League. Here is how the standings now look.
1. Hays 21-10 2. Derby 21-12 3. Nevada 21-12* 4. Liberal 17-14 5. El Dorado 13-20 6. Dodge City 10-19 7. Joplin 10-26*
* Includes two forfeits by
Joplin scheduled for next week
Bee Jays Add Three Players The Liberal Bee Jays have added
three players to their roster. Left handed pitcher CJ Maffei
from the Joplin Slashers will join the team for the
stretch run. Maffei plays college baseball at Labette
Community College. Thomas Keeling who is
also a left handed pitcher will also join the Bee Jays. He is from Oklahoma
State University. Liberal also filled their need with a catcher as they picked
up Jay Green who played for Glendale Community College this past spring. Green
will be playing at the University of New Mexico this season.
Thursday, July 24, 2008 Bee Jays Lose Derby Series The Derby Twins defeated the
Liberal Bee Jays 9-5 Thursday to take two out of three from Bee Jays in Derby.
The season series ends in a 3-3 tie. The Bee Jays scored a run in the first but
Derby answered back with two of their own and never trailed again. Liberal did
cut the deficit to 4-3 in the seventh but left the bases loaded. The Twins then
responded with four runs in the seventh. In the eighth Mike Ferraro hit a two
run homer for Liberal, but it wasn’t enough as Derby held on for the win. The
Bee Jays are now two games behind second place Derby. Liberal drops to 24-15
overall and 19-12 in the Jayhawk League. They will
open up a three game series in El Dorado tomorrow night at 7 P.M. You can hear
the game on 1270 AM, and on kscb.net. Dugout show begins at 6:45.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 Bee Jays Get Even In Derby The Liberal Bee Jays evened up
their three game series in Derby with a 6-2 win over the Derby Twins Wednesday.
Due to a shortness in pitchers the Bee Jays gave Will Skelton a spot start.
Skelton has worked primarily out of the bullpen this year. However, he worked
seven innings Wednesday giving up no runs in the win. Liberal scored three runs
in the first inning led by Nick Zaleski who had a two
RBI single. Player of the year Steven Tucker then hit his sixth home run of the
season in the seventh inning with two outs. The Bee Jays improve to 24-14
overall and 19-11 in the Jayhawk League. They will

League Commish Approves
Former Joplin Players to Join Bee Jays Jayhawk League Commissioner Bob Considine
told Liberal Bee Jays President Cheryl Collins this morning after talking with
League President J.D. Schneider that the Bee Jays are allowed to have players
from the Joplin Slashers join their team right now.
The Slashers folded as a team for the season after
Monday night’s game. It was unknown as to rather they would be allowed to join
the Bee Jays while the conference season is still going on. The league rules
state that if the regular season is over and a team does not qualify that the
team in first place gets first dibs at any players from the conference that
they would like to add who did not qualify for the NBC tournament. However,
since the league season is not over yet Considine and
Schneider both agreed that the Bee Jays could add players from the folded Slashers. This comes as a big help for the Bee Jays as
catcher Clint Ewing will be leaving the team due to ailing knees. Outfielder
Jake Rife will also be leaving the team at the end of the regular season due to
a personal manner. They will join Bren Schuehler and Taylor Rogers as Bee Jays who have left the
team in the past week. It is unknown at
this time what Joplin players will be joining the Bee Jays roster.
Hargrove to Appear on KWCH Tonight Liberal Bee Jays Manager Mike
Hargrove will be featured on the sports segment of KWCH’s
news at 6 P.M. and 10 P.M. tonight. KWCH Sports Director Bruce Haertl interviewed Hargrove. In Liberal it can be seen on
Time Warner Cable channel six. KWCH is located in Wichita and can be viewed by
most of the western side of the state of Kansas. It is the highest rated
newscast of the major three in Wichita.
Joplin Folds, Bee Jays Pick Up Two More Wins The Joplin Slashers
have folded for the season. They didn’t have another game scheduled for a week
and a half and could not keep their players in town prompting them to fold
their season. The Jayhawk League Commissioner has
ruled today that Joplin will have to forfeit every game in the league which
will make them 0-36 for the season. This move gives the Liberal Bee Jays two
more wins as they lost two of the six games to the Slashers
this summer. The Bee Jays record is now 23-14 overall and 18-11 in the Jayhawk League. They are still in fourth place a half game
behind Nevada for third. Liberal trails second place Derby by two games, and
first place Hays by three and a half games.
Tuesday, July 22, 2008 Bee Jays Drop Nail Biter The Liberal Bee Jays lost a
close one to the Derby Twins 3-2 Tuesday in Derby. Liberal took a 1-0 lead in
the first inning, but Derby scored one of their own in the first and then hit a

had an RBI in the ninth to close the gap to one, however the Bee Jays stranded
men on second and third to end the game. Brett Davis pitched eight innings in
the loss for Liberal striking out four. It was the first of an eight game seven
day road trip for the Bee Jays. Liberal drops to 21-16 overall and 16-13 in the
Jayhawk League. Derby is now 20-11 in the league. The
Bee Jays will play at Derby again Wednesday at 7 P.M. You can hear the game on
1270 AM KSCB and on kscb.net. The Dugout Show will begin at 6:45.

Jays to his father’s health. Hargrove said his father’s condition has improved.
When asked about if the experience so far of managing the Bee Jays is what he
thought it would be Hargrove said for the most part it has been. Hargrove said
the team feels that every time they step on the field that they have a good
shot to win. He said there are a few players on the team that have a legit shot
at making a run at playing at the professional level. The topic of Hargrove managing
in the major leagues came up again. He said if the right opportunity presents
itself that he would like to manage again. But that if it doesn’t happen then
that is okay too. Hargrove did say
however that he is enjoying the non-pressure of his life right now. He joked

on him. When Hargrove accepted the job to be the Bee Jays skipper he did so for
just a $1 for the summer.
